With the latest update of the SHOM charts portfolio 16 th, 2021, Geogarage announces the removal of 18 facsimile charts from British charts covering, mainly, the south coast of England and Gibraltar. These areas are now only covered by the British Admiralty portfolio. (You are there).
Indeed, SHOM recently announced (¹) the rationalization of its catalog of nautical charts, onwards September 2021, by the deletion of many foreign charts reproduced under historical reciprocity agreements with some foreign hydrographic services.
Dans ce document (¹), on y apprend :
Face à l’évolution des besoins de ses clients civils et militaires et à la généralisation des ENC (Electronic Navigational Charts), SHOM has decided to rationalize its portfolio of charts in foreign waters, principalement reproduites en fac-similé (foreign charts reproduced in the French portfolio).
[…]
De septembre à décembre 2021, SHOM will proceed with a major development of its portfolio, namely :
– La suppression de 194 cartes marines françaises (principalement des fac-similés);
– L’introduction de 180 cards in the complementary portfolio.[…]
This immediately results in, with this latest update for English Channel navigation with SailGrib WR (²) et Weather4D R&N, the obligation to subscribe from now on to the UKHO catalog to approach the English coasts. Enfin, lorsque des conditions plus propices seront revenues…
Que cette décision ait été prise pour des raisons de rationalisation technique, de restriction budgétaire, du Brexit, ou un peu de tout cela, le résultat est là. Et j’invite vivement les utilisateurs abonnés à Geogarage to check the availability of detailed charts in the interactive catalog de leur plateforme.
